I haven’t been looking forward to this last phase of the site redesign: the front page. It’s time to sell my skills to you and politely ask that you hire me. It’s the most difficult part of the process to do for myself. I find it easy when I’m designing for someone else.
Flippant humor must be set aside because it’s a serious subject. You don’t want a comic to design your website – you want a competent professional to promote your business.
On the other hand, it would be wrong for the look-and-feel to impersonate a large agency or ponderous corporation. I am neither of those things. It’s just you and me when we’re working on your site design or talking about content additions. You’ll have my full attention.
Overall, my front page must be impressive but not too busy, confident without being braggadocious, and communicative without being verbose. I have three seconds or less to make the right impression because if you don’t like it, you will be gone after a glance.
No pressure. I’m starting a fresh pot of coffee and heading into the first draft of my design. Wish me luck.
